The Walt Disney Company Senior Financial Analyst, Disney Music Group in Burbank, California

Part of the Studio Entertainment segment of The Walt Disney Company (TWDC), Disney Music Group (DMG) is the music hub for TWDC, encompassing all aspects of music monetization: Recorded Music (Walt Disney and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music both physically and digitally; and also licenses music throughout the world in various forms of media including television, print, gaming and consumer products.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager for DMG, this position works with internal DMG Finance, Marketing, Studio Finance, and Controllership teams to manage financial planning and reporting for Recorded Music US, Licensing, Artist Marketing, and DMG Overhead. Additional responsibilities will include providing analytical and data support to drive business development, various business analyses, and ad hoc projects. This position is ideal for a candidate who possesses strong analytical and technical capabilities and is looking to build process management skills. Across all responsibilities, this Senior Financial Analyst role will be challenged to develop and improve processes and models.

Responsibilities :

  • Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Ownership of all Cognos TM1 planning inputs for Recorded Music US, Licensing, Artist Marketing, and DMG overhead for the Annual Operating Plan & Forecast cycles. Assist in the preparation of DMG’s 5-Year Strategic Plan & AOP presentation materials.

  • Drive process efficiencies through the creation of and continued updates to financial models and templates including return reserve, joint ventures, and recoupment while leveraging Cognos and other planning tools. Partner with internal Finance team and Tech to continue to evolve technology and propose system enhancements that streamline and automate processes.

  • Collaborate with both internal finance team members and accounting to improve US Recorded Music planning process, actualize models, and validate forecasting assumptions.

  • Consolidate Ultimates for DMG, load into Cognos tool, and provide cause of change drivers.

  • Partner closely with the artist marketing team, coordinate/lead artist budget meetings, provide financial support for all AOP/forecast cycles, and be the key point of contact for DMG Finance.

  • Operational Reporting and Data Support

  • Trusted and reliable “one stop shop” for analytical and data support to DMG management, operations and other teams to drive business development, various business analyses and ad hoc projects.

  • As data super user, understand all available data sources and liaise with Accounting and Tech team to ensure global financial sales data are loaded accurately and timely.

  • Prepare monthly T&E report, Digital Summary, Postmortem P&L’s, and other operational reports and various deep dive analysis for Senior Management.

  • As key DMG Finance reporting contact, be a team player and build strong relationships with both internal and external partners providing financial support while acting as a change agent to challenge the status quo.

  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of DMG SAP hierarchies to facilitate reporting and analysis. As reporting SME, be an enthusiastic advocate of the use of available DMG hierarchies and tools to various partners within and beyond Finance.

  • Ad hoc reporting and work on special projects

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 3+ years of finance planning & analysis or accounting experience. Previous experience or avid interest in entertainment / music desired.

  • Deliverable-focused, strong work ethic, able to prioritize, identify, and resolve an array of issues simultaneously. Exceptional commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals and tight deadlines.

  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access, SAP. Intermediate to advanced Excel modeling skills required.

  • Strong relationship builder with the ability to work autonomously and strategically work through problems

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to work with individuals from various departments and at all levels in the organization

  • Flexibility in role and responsibilities given the constantly evolving music industry landscape

  • Working knowledge in key accounting principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with data analytics tools like Cognos TM1/Café, Access, Tableau, and SQL is a plus.
