This classification inspects work, designs and lays out automated lawn sprinkler systems, and has responsibility for entering data into computer for programming daily schedules. Purpose of this classification: designs, programs, repairs, installs and maintains automated underground lawn sprinkler and drip irrigation systems.This position exists to aid and advise the LOS Manager in fulfilling the Facility Services' mission to the University by practicing sustainable maintenance and operations methods, ensuring clean, healthy and safe campus environments, providing superior customer service to the Campus community, adopting industry best practices, and empowering the LOS workforce.Duties and Responsibilities:(65%) - IRRIGATION MAINTENANCEPrograms Calsense computer for daily automated sprinkler schedules.Scheduling and coordinating irrigation and watering activities as required in assigned area.Troubleshoots electronic systems, irrigation controllers, solenoid valves, and heads of all types.Responsible for other irrigation activities including installing or repairing heads, lines, valves, clocks, troubleshooting, mapping systems for both popup and drip systems, removes old systems and recovers reusable equipment.Operates tractors and trenchers to install linesCoordinates the activities of subordinatesRemoves litter including cigarette butts and empties litter barrels as neededResponsible for blue staking irrigation systems as requested.Will be required to work with other departments on projects.Performs other duties as required.Performs all job duties in compliance with NAU safety policies and procedures.Complies with all OSHA regulations.(10%) PLANNING AND CUSTOMER SERVICEMaps systems for campus-wide master plans using a computerized system.Plans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules and procedures for equipment maintenance.Designs new and complex irrigation systems or may redesign old irrigation systems.Maintains accurate landscape drawings manually or on computer design system; maintains accurate records of water usage to maximize water efficiency.Coordinates with electrician, telecommunications staff and other appropriate departments/outside contractors in the design, installation, and repairs of automated underground lawn sprinkler systemsProvides superior customer service to the campus community.Responsible for initiating measures to improve customer service within the area, LOS and Facility Services.Takes a proactive role in promoting and supporting Facility Services mission and vision.(5%) - CLEANING TOOLS, MAINTENANCE, OPERATE EQUIPMENT, AND SAFETY:Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required.Performs routine daily maintenance on all equipment. Includes washing/cleaning, checking and adding oil, and fluids.Secures all equipment at end of shift. Includes removing tools and equipment from trucks and placing in proper storage. Locking all trucks and equipment.Observe all departmental/university safety rules, policies and regulations related to the efficient and safe performance of job duties.(10%) - DAILY LOG, WORK LOGS, TRAININGCompletion of daily work logsProvides detailed and specific reports for work completed.Participates in job-related training. May be required to attend out-of-town seminars.Trains and assists in providing orientation to any assigned employees.(10%) SEASONAL/OCCASIONAL:Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as steps, sidewalks, and entryways as required. Will operate bobcats for sidewalk snow removal, and larger equipment for roads and parking areas.Assist Heavy Equipment Operators in the completion of various landscaping projects.Assist in trimming and pruning a var iety of trees and shrubs, as required.May assist Moving Department in completion of moving furniture and event setups.
