Position Summary:In coordination with the Alaska Association of School Board, the University of Alaska Southeast Student Services division is seeking a Transitions Advisor and STEPS Program Coordinator. 15%STEPS Grant Liaison: Serve as primary liaison with grantee (Alaska Association of School Boards) and twenty-plus grant partner organizations across Southeast Alaska.Essential
15%Student Success: Coordinate an early orientation program for students from the target population who are enrollment full time at UAS. Ensure that new students from the target population have mentors during their first semester.Essential
20%Coordinating Early College Programs: Develop and implement early college experiences for students from the target populations in the STEPS grant, including, but not limited to one on campus experience for high school aged students.Essential
40%Dual Enrollment Coordinating and Advising: Assist students from target populations in selecting appropriate courses; navigating enrollment processes; and identifying educational support resources. Provide intervention, guidance and referral for students experiencing academic difficulty.
Work in collaboration with academic departments, the financial aid office, and academic advisors, among others to provide dual enrollment opportunities to students in the target population.Essential
5%Community Talks: Host TED-style post-secondary community talks in collaboration with grant partners in target communities.Essential

Education & Experience
Required, a Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
Previous University enrollment, and/or student services experience is preferred.
Previous academic program, grant, and/or project management experience is preferred.
Experience working successfully with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds is preferred.
Knowledge of University system to refer students to the correct service areas for additional assistance.
Knowledge of best practices, federal and state laws and legal issues associated with and applicable to student services and higher education.
Knowledge of marketing/advertising principles.
Advanced public speaking skills.
