Alta Science & Engineering, Inc. seeks candidates for two Sampling positions based in our Kellogg, Idaho office to support Bunker Hill Superfund Site House Dust Project activities. The successful candidates must be self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individuals who can work well independently and as part of an energetic team. These positions are seasonal, with limited benefits and variable hours depending upon available workload (part-time). Estimated start date is mid-July, and work may continue until November.Responsibilities Include:* Locate, verify, and visit participating rural and urban residences.* Conduct house dust sample collection, vacuum dust mats, and prepare samples for analysis in accordance with established protocols.* Record accurate data, complete paperwork legibly; may prepare summaries and charts for review and develop a report detailing activities performed and results received.* Enter data into electronic database and/or spreadsheets; proof/edit entered data, drawings, etc.* Maintain and navigate multiple document filing systems; respond to inquiries and information requests.* Review field documents, electronic data, and sample label entries for accuracy; deliver/ship samples to laboratory for analysis.* Maintain a high degree of professionalism during interactions with Alta staff and the general public. Provide timely communication with supervisor regarding work-related matters.* Actively promote good Health and Safety practices at all times.* May also assist other field sampling crews with collection of groundwater and surface water samples, stream discharge measurements, and field measurement equipment downloads as needed.Required Qualifications: * High school education* Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and calculate area (square footage)* Flexibility and a positive outlook even when problems are encountered * Basic typing, computer, and data entry skills * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence* Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public and co-workers, and work on a team* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail* Ability to walk, bend, kneel, etc., and carry 25+ lbs* Ability to work in an outdoor environment including during inclement weather, walking on uneven terrain, and lifting/carrying field equipment short distance* Current OSHA 24- or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification or the ability to obtain prior to start date* Valid driver's license with insurable driving recordOther Desirable Qualifications: * Strong computer skills, with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access* Strong writing and editing skills* 6 months or more of related experience and/or familiarity with house dust sampling protocols* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field
