Utilizes knowledge and skills in giving safe and effective care and treatment. Identifies the needs of the patients. Ensures proper procedural documentation/ guidelines and precautions are followed. Gives direct care and treatment to the patient. Plans for and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for the patient. Identifies the area of care and technical skills which is within the range of abilities and job scope of personnel; assigns and supervises accordingly those assigned him/her by the Manager. Primary Accountabilities:

  • Promotes interdepartmental/client relationships with positive interactive skills, and maintains a professional, team-orientated working environment.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and uses this knowledge to enhanced hemodynamic and angiographic techniques as observed by attending physician.

  • Assists the physician and anticipates equipment needs.

  • Recognizes potential emergency/life threatening situations and implements preventative measures as directed by the physician.

  • Demonstrates technical and manual dexterity during procedures while establishing priorities for each task to be performed under a physician’s direction

  • Recognizes and communicates the electrocardiographic / hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure.

  • Documents accurate and pertinent data concerning the patient's condition during procedure

  • Records temporary playback of procedure for initial, immediate review by physician.

  • Demonstrates ability to operate, problem-solve and improvise common equipment malfunctions.

  • Demonstrates ability to learn and practice new techniques and equipment utilization by attending training sessions and familiarizing self with new procedure revisions as they occur.

  • Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to insure radiation safety to self, fellow employees, visitors and physicians.

  • Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to minimize risk of exposure to possible hazardous materials.

  • Communicates effectively and frequently with team members to share information and solve problems in a positive manner as observed by the Manager.

  • Ability to perform all aspects of Cath procedure and train/precept personnel in the Cardiac Cath Lab.

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of drugs/calculations commonly used in the Cardiac Cath Lab.

  • Promotes interdepartmental/client relationships with positive interactive skills, and maintains a professional, team-orientated working environment.

  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor/ Manager.

  • Schedules patients as requested by physicians without error.

  • Creates daily schedule from computer-based program and faxes to appropriate nursing units the morning of the procedure.

  • Runs the schedule according to the Cardiac Cath Lab scheduling policy and informs Manager of any problems related to scheduled procedures or emergencies. (i.e. Notifies cardiologist prior to the pre-op of patients)

  • Effectively communicates with other staff member's status of schedule and assists with the delegating transport needs and lunch breaks.

  • Assists in room turnaround between cases by cleaning surfaces and mopping floor by following infection control and environmental policies and procedures

  • Demonstrates competency and knowledge in efficiently preparing a patient for Cardiac Cath and EP procedures using established aseptic technique, equipment and supplies in a safe and prudent manner.

  • Moves lifts and assists patients appropriately to procedure table and provides maximum privacy during procedure.

  • Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner.

  • Utilizes and schedules staff in the most cost effective manner including daily scheduling, time keeping and flexing of staff to meet the financial goals of the organization.

  • Strives to continually identify cost saving opportunities

    Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Lead-Nurse), Graduate of an approved school of Cardio-invasive Technology, Current Florida RN licensure (Lead-Nurse), RCIS certification preferred, OR, Graduate of a Joint Review Committee approved Radiologic Technology Program, or equivalent approved school of Radiologic Technology, Possess a current Florida State License as a General Radiographer, Possess a current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T) registration.

  • Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Must hold current AHA ACLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Excellent, positive human relations skills.
  • Previous Interventional Cardiology experience preferred or 2 years Critical Care experience.
  • Previous Electrophysiology experience preferred.
  • RCIS certification required for specialist, CCRN credentialing preferred for nurses
  • Able to take call on a rotating basis and be available in the Cath Lab within 30 minutes of notification.
  • Able to work long variable hours.
  • Must be able to transport patients via stretcher over carpet/tile areas unassisted with weight up to 300 lbs. 10-15 times daily.
  • Must be able to transfer patient population from stretcher/bed to procedure table: procedure table to stretcher/bed for weights up to 60 lbs. /per person, 10-15 times daily.
  • Able to stand on feet with 30 lbs. of additional weight for eight hours a day.
