GENERAL SUMMARY Provides psychological services for the Developmental Disabilities Department individuals with disabilities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintains the developmental disabilities mission of Person Centered Planning.
Develops written, detailed, and specific individualized behavior modification programs. Monitors and trains staff in the use of same.
Provides general psychological services as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team.
Selects, administers, scores and interprets test of intelligence, specific deficits, personality, educational achievement, and vocational interests and aptitudes.
Develops comprehensive psychological evaluations of clients based on test results and other available information and makes appropriate recommendations.
Participates in conferences with parents and/or parent surrogates, and is able to exchange information, as well as offer recommendations on matters pertinent to the client’s psychological adjustment.
Provides psychological insights at conferences, staff discussions, and meetings at which diagnostic information is evaluated and treatment planned.
Attends departmental and in-service training meetings and gives in-service training to staff or program visitors on psychological treatment and related subjects.
Provides individual and group counseling to consumers. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Education & Experience
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Skills, Knowledge, Ability)
Valid driver’s license, related experience.
CULTURAL AND SOCIOECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS: Ability to interact with and complete assignments in a manner sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in on-on-one and small group situations to peers, consumers, families and other employees of the agency.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers, and multiplies and divides with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.
REASONABILITY SKILLS: Ability to apply common sense and understanding in carrying out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variable in standardized situations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field is required. Two (2) years of specialized experience in the diagnosis and treatment of developmental disabled persons required.
While performing the duties for this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly and effectively. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
