The Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) is currently seeking a full-time school year (.80%) Child Care Counselor 1. This position is located at 309 W. Walworth Avenue, Delavan.

WSD operates a residential school for children ages three to twenty-one with deafness and/or hard of hearing. The school provides academic and career education on site. The school also offers instructional and technical assistance, teaching materials and evaluations of pupils to local school districts and other agencies. Position Summary: Position provides care and counseling service to K-12 deaf children and/or multiple handicapped deaf children. This includes providing each child the opportunity to become independent through individual training programs and day-to-day living experiences. Through supervision, allow each child to perform tasks he/she is capable of doing.

Special Notes:

An American Sign Language Proficiency Interview rating of 2 upon hire and 2+ upon completion of probation is required.

A valid driver's license is required upon appointment.

The selection process for Child Care Counselor positions will include a criminal background check. Qualifications:

Effective child care (parenting) skills/procedures; daily living skills including recreation/leisure activities, group living situations and behavior management techniques; effective oral and written communication skills; and effective interpersonal strategies including conflict resolution techniques.

Salary: Child Care Counselor 1 is in pay schedule 06, range 10. Pay upon transfer, demotion or reinstatement is based on the compensation rules applicable to the transaction. Minimum starting salary is $13.37 per hour. A twelve-month probationary period may be required.
